WHY IS THIS SITE HERE?
This site is an attempt to give my brother & sister Heads a visual & auditory taste of shows they can't make it to in person. Phish fans are among the warmest, most welcoming people in the world... spreading goodwill and happiness is what it's all about.

WHAT WILL I SEE ON THIS SITE?
You'll see still photos, scenes from the tourcam, listen in on the tourphone from just about any show I'm fortunate enough to go to.

You won't photos from inside the venues, just from the road and lot scene. I respect the band's wishes in this matter. (most of the time ;)

This is obviously very new, something rarely (if ever) done before. I've been piecing it together over the past couple of years, but am contstrained by the available technology. The wireless infrastructure just isn't quite there yet, so I'm very limited in what I can do. Especially rural settings.

When the planets align perfectly I can:

  • upload a tourcam photo about once a minute. (assuming there's CDPD coverage where I am)
  • snap, process, and upload about a dozen or two digital photos. (before I'm too fucked up to operate the camera anymore)
  • answer and hold up the tourPHone during the concerts (for as long as the battery holds out).

The planets rarely align perfectly, however, so it's not unusual for one or more parts of this mess of a hobby to fail.

Through it all, remember that wireless links are notoriously slow and very spotty... it'll be many years before you see super-high-quality links or true streaming video. But I sincerely hope you get a kick out of what you do see.

How did this all start? This site started in the summer of 1997 as the result of a suggestion by Pete, the founder of Sugarmegs. "Boy, it sure would be neat to see photos from a digital camera the day of a show." Inspriation struck as I realized a way to combine my two greatest interets- Phish & computers. I started fooling around with it at the Texas shows I was at, and next thing I knew I was a web publisher! The project expanded from there to include a new, specialized cellular modem, and then also the tourPHone. The site also moved from an arcane web address to my own domain with tons o' bandwidth & storage. I average a few thousand hits per tour season and put my free cellular minutes to great use.
Mike, this site is the balls. How can I ever thank you? Drugs. Send drugs. And beer.
